TreaTmenT approach

Juno House™ is based on a unified approach to treatment, utilizing a therapeutic model™ with attachment theory as the primary assessment tool.  Using interpersonal neurobiology, Juno House’s treatment approach will, in effect, re-wire the brain to overcome past self-harming behaviors such as:

  • anxiety,
  • depression,
  • self mutilation,
  • self depreciating behavior,
  • obsessive compulsive disorder,
  • disordered eating patterns,
  • relational failures

“Children are attached to their parents. Parents are bonded to their children.”

– Daniel Siegel

Juno House treatment is solidly based upon brain development research, which indicates the right hemisphere of the brain’s role as the emotional regulator. The work of the therapist is to “snag the brain” with the use of various therapeutic interventions, such as EMDR, to build new regulatory abilities.  Using this approach, therapists are, in effect, re-wiring the brain to tolerate emotional states, and to regulate them without the use of past self-harming behaviors.
Welcome To Juno House
You will notice the difference the minute you walk through the front door...

“The amygdala (smoke detector of the brain) reacts based on past patterns.”

– Bessel VanDer Kolk

Drawing on a wide range of scientific findings from, anthropology, communication, social psychology and developmental neuroscience, the therapists at Juno House understand the connections between our Attachment experience, and the development and function of the brain.  This approach is called “interpersonal neurobiology.”  This approach works with the young woman and invites her parents to develop a more coherent understanding of themselves and their children.  This understanding, is deepened when we can blend both subjective, personal reflections with objective scientific knowledge.

As part of a healthy relationship, parents will learn to become the ‘Emotional Coach’ for their children. Juno House provides individual and workshop training to parents in the ‘Emotional Focused Family Therapy’ model.  Parents learn to recognize and tolerate their own emotions and to become their child’s emotional coach — a crucial and essential skill of emotional self regulation.
